Octopus part 6: Procreation
Composed and conducted by Joan Reinders
Soloists: Gregor Sperzel – trombone and Bart Tarenskeen – bass
Live recording at Theater Bouwkunde, Deventer May 2nd
This part depicts the love life – and thus also the reproduction. However, the love life doesn’t really amount to much, octopi are solitary creatures. A male and female will only seek each tohre out in order to reproduce.
After the eggs tatch, the female often dies of exhaustion.
This death is expressed through the chromatic decrease of a major seventh sharp five chord. The Leitmotiv is heard again in this piece, with variation. A trombone solo from Gregor Sperzel and a bass solo from Bart Tarenskeen refine this ballad.
