Octopus part 5: Food
Composed and conducted by Joan Reinders
Soloists: Coen Kaldeway – baritone saxophone, Rob Sijben – soprano saxophone, Dirk Balthaus – piano
Live recording at Theater Bouwkunde, Deventer May 2nd
Part five depicts the varied food of the octopus: this includes crabs, lobsters, fish and sometimes even other cephalopods. The octopus can paralyse its prey with a poisonous substance and its strong beak-shaped jaws can crack the hard exterior of a lobster, for example. Three soloists play three different delicacies from the menu: Phrygian lobsters with Coen Kaldeway on baritone saxophone, dominant crabs with Rob Sijben on soprano saxophone and whole tone fishes with Dirk Balthaus on piano.
